Playback singer Kanika Kapoor has announced her divorce from husband and businessman Gautam Hathiramani after four years of marriage. The 48-year-old singer shared the update on her Instagram Story on Tuesday, just a day after removing their wedding photographs from her social media profile.

Addressing the news publicly, Kapoor wrote: “Dear friends and family; After much thought and
consideration, my husband and I are going our separate ways. I am grateful for the time we shared and wish him well for the future. I sincerely ask for kindness and respect for our privacy as we move forward.
Love
Kanika”

Following her announcement, Kapoor addressed the split and dismissed rumors suggesting she was unwilling to reside in Lagos, Nigeria. Speaking to a publication, she stated, “I have not found anybody else, and to the best of my knowledge, neither has Gautam. For me, this is my second time for a divorce and that brings its own grief and disappointment. To say that I did not want to stay in Lagos is not true, and it’s so typical – that when a marriage falls apart, the first person to be blamed is the woman – which is unfair. Only two people in a marriage know what exactly transpires between them.”

She added, “I have three children that I need to take care of. I hope to keep my future interactions with Gautam smooth, as I am not an aggressive person. I think he would wish the same.”

Kapoor and Hathiramani shared a friendship spanning nearly 15 years before their dynamic turned romantic. The singer had previously disclosed that she proposed to him twice—first in 2014 and again in 2020. Hathiramani formally proposed in August 2021, and the pair wed on May 20, 2022, during an intimate ceremony in London attended by close friends, family, and Kapoor’s three children.

This marks Kapoor’s second marriage. In 1998, at the age of 18, she married London-based NRI general practitioner Raj Chandok, also known as Dr. Jaspreet Singh Chandok. The couple lived in London and raised three children together—daughters Aayana and Samara, and son Yuvraaj. After divorcing Chandok in 2012, Kapoor relocated to India to establish her career in the music industry.

Kapoor initially gained attention with the 2012 track Jugni Ji, followed by a breakthrough Bollywood debut with Baby Doll from the 2014 film Ragini MMS 2, composed by Meet Bros. Over the years, she delivered hit tracks including Lovely (Happy New Year), Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan (Roy), and Tukur Tukur (Dilwale). She also voiced the Hindi iteration of Oo Antava for Pushpa: The Rise in 2021, alongside recent releases such as Gori Hai Kaliyaan from the film Mere Husband Ki Biwi.
