Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan: Eight workers died on Monday at a road construction site in Jhunjhunu district. Police say a machine they were using hit a high-tension power line.

The accident occurred in Chhapoli village, near the Udaipurwati police station. The workers used a gravel-mixing machine that contacted a live wire overhead. Electric current passed through the machine, striking the workers.

SHO Rampal explained the cause.

These accidents are deadly because they happen quickly. High-tension lines carry a lot of electricity. A metal machine can transmit that current instantly. Nearby people have little time to react.

Construction sites often have heavy machines near power lines. Safety rules say teams should check for overhead wires before starting work. They should also keep machines away from them. Reports don’t indicate if this was done in Chhapoli.

Many questions remain. Police haven’t shared the victims’ names. There’s no word on other injuries. It’s unclear who ran the project or if any action or compensation has been promised.

Police are expected to provide more information as their investigation continues.
