Indore: Police in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore have registered a case against BJP Mandal President Kamal Chauhan for allegedly pushing and misbehaving with a 15-year-old girl at a Garba event. The incident has turned into a political fight, with the Congress attacking the BJP.
What Happened
The incident took place at the Kankeshwari Garba Utsav in the Hira Nagar area of Indore, which falls under the Hira Nagar police station. The girl had gone there to take part in the Garba celebrations when a dispute allegedly began over her entry into the venue.
A video of the incident went viral on social media. It shows a heated argument between the girl and Chauhan. He can be heard saying “get out of here” as he pushes her to force her out of the pandal. The girl answers back, saying he “dare not touch her,” while other people try to step in.
Case Registered Under POCSO Act
The girl went to the Hira Nagar police station and gave a written complaint, saying she was shoved and forced out of the venue. Police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police said the allegations are being investigated. Further legal action will follow after they examine the complaint and the available evidence.
BJP Shows Displeasure
Before the police case was registered, Chauhan was called to the party office on the instructions of BJP Madhya Pradesh president Hemant Khandelwal. BJP Indore city president Sumit Mishra expressed the party’s strong displeasure over the incident.
The party has also said the viral video will be investigated, while police carry on with their own inquiry.
Congress Attacks BJP
The matter became more political because Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited the same Garba venue just hours after the alleged incident. He took part in a Kanya Pujan ceremony, a ritual in which young girls are worshipped.
The Congress questioned the contrast between the Chief Minister honouring young girls and the allegations of mistreatment of a minor at the same place. Madhya Pradesh Congress spokesperson Amit Chaurasia attacked the BJP over the episode.
The Congress demanded an explanation from the event organisers and strict action against the accused. It also urged Khandelwal to expel Chauhan from the party and remove him from the post of Mandal president. The party questioned the BJP’s commitment to the safety and dignity of young girls.
What Happens Next
Police are examining the complaint and the video that is circulating online. They are expected to establish what led to the argument and the order of events at the venue.
It is important to remember that these are allegations at this stage. The findings of the investigation will decide what legal action follows. Chauhan’s side of the story was not part of the report.
The case is likely to remain a hot political issue in Madhya Pradesh. The Congress is pressing for accountability, while the BJP faces demands to explain the conduct of its local leader. What happens next will depend on the evidence collected by police and the action taken by the party leadership.
