Popular environmentalist known as ‘Bittu Tabahi’ was shocked when he found the river he spend 8 months cleaning single handedly is dirty again. Nearby people living in the area didn’t stopped throwing garbage in the river.
Bittu with real name Surendra Singh Choudhary, is again started cleaning the the Ajnar River in Madhya Pradesh.
When he visited the river recently, he found a frustrating sight: people had dumped piles of plastic waste into the water again, completely undoing eight months of non-stop work.
Instead of walking away in defeat, Bittu decided to roll up his sleeves and start cleaning the entire river all over again.
However, instead of giving up, Choudhary made a video of the state of the river and posted it on social media. He then started collecting garbage, using just gloves and garbage bags.
“I never imagined that eight months of my hard work would go to waste like this,” Choudhary said in his video. “As you can see, people have heavily littered this river again. First, I put on gloves for safety and cleared the waste near the ghat. But I have to remove the waste inside the water too. Even though I don’t know how to swim, I step in anyway to pull it out. Please tell me in the comments how I can clean this river more effectively.”
Social Media Outcry Over Civic Sense
The video quickly went viral, triggering intense discussions across social media platforms regarding public apathy, municipal neglect, and the lack of basic civic responsibility in protecting natural water bodies.
While many users praised Choudhary’s perseverance, several voiced frustration over how easily citizens treat local rivers as open dumps:
- Praise for Resilience: Viewers hailed Choudhary as a local hero, commending his determination to return to the river rather than walk away in frustration.
- Calls for Self-Reflection: Many commenters pointed out that citizens often blame local administrations while failing to practice basic waste management themselves. “Before we blame politicians or the government, we need to look at ourselves and see what we are doing to our own public spaces,” one widely shared comment noted.
Choudhary continues his cleanup routine at the Ajnar ghat and has appealed to local youth and community members to join the effort to keep the river clean permanently.
