GHAZIABAD – A woman and her gym trainer have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad for allegedly planning an attack on her husband. Police say the man, Shashank Kantharia, was stabbed at least 12 times while he was asleep. He survived and is being treated in a hospital.
What the CCTV Cameras Showed
CCTV footage seen by NDTV shows Shashank’s wife, Priya Sharma, leaving her home in the Jagriti Resident Welfare Association Society in Vasundhara Sector-1 at 5:17 am on October 26. She drove out in her car.
About three minutes later, her gym trainer, Pratap Singh, was seen running into the society and heading to her flat. Police say he then stabbed Shashank while he was sleeping.
Neighbours heard Shashank’s screams and the cries of the couple’s 3-year-old child and rushed out of their homes. Around 5:23 am, Pratap ran out of the flat. Neighbours said he was holding two knives.
How the Attacker Was Caught
Some neighbours who were walking nearby became suspicious and chased him. They said he told them that nothing had happened. With the help of two bikers and a security guard, he was caught at the society’s main gate.
About 20 minutes later, neighbours found Shashank on the top floor of the building. He was rushed to a hospital.
Police Say Priya Helped
The society only lets outsiders in if residents approve. Police say Priya helped Pratap get inside. They also say she left the gate unlocked, which made it easier for him to enter the house.
The Background
Shashank, originally from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, married Priya about four years ago. Police say it was her second marriage. Both of them had government jobs, and their families said they had no disputes.
Police say Priya and Pratap became close after she began going to his gym, Fitness Headquarters. She had been visiting for seven to eight months, and the two also chatted on WhatsApp. During questioning, Pratap told police that the two planned to get married.
Police say Shashank found out about the relationship and planned to move to a new place after Diwali in November. After that, the two allegedly made a plan to kill him.
Police also said Priya would sometimes stay home and say she was unwell. After Shashank left for work, she would allegedly invite Pratap over. They reportedly met during a morning run on October 25 and talked about killing Shashank.
Family Speaks Out
Shashank’s brother, Ritesh Kanthariya, said the family never found Priya suspicious. “They used to show that there was no problem,” he said.
He said Shashank arrived at the hospital in a terrible condition, and recovery will take time. Shashank has several injuries on his head, neck and shoulder. One knife went fully into his chest and damaged his lungs. Ritesh said the doctors did not think Shashank would survive.
What Happens Next
Both Priya and Pratap are under arrest, and police are continuing their investigation.
