Two Dead, Four Injured

Two members of the same family were killed and four others were injured after their car collided with a truck in Gujarat’s Patan district on Friday morning, police said. The crash has left the family in shock and once again raised questions about safety on the state’s highways.

What Happened

The accident took place on the Radhanpur-Sami Highway. The victims were travelling from Dwarka towards Bhabhar in Banaskantha district when their car crashed head-on into a truck coming from the opposite direction.

A head-on collision means two vehicles hit each other front to front while moving in opposite directions. The force of such a crash is very high, which is why the damage is often severe.

The Victims

Ranjit Mangilal and his mother, Jamnaben, died on the spot. Four other people travelling in the car were injured and were taken for treatment.

Police have not yet shared details about the identities of the injured or their medical condition. Updates are expected as officials complete their initial inquiry.

Cause Not Yet Known

Police have not said what led to the crash. It is not yet clear which vehicle was at fault, how fast either vehicle was moving, or what the road and weather conditions were at the time. Until the investigation is complete, it would be wrong to blame anyone.

Why Head-On Crashes Are So Dangerous

When two vehicles collide head-on, their speeds combine, so the impact is much stronger than hitting a stationary object. A truck is also far heavier than a car, which means the people inside the smaller vehicle face a much greater risk of serious injury.

Road safety experts often point to a few common reasons behind such crashes, though none has been confirmed in this case:

  • Overtaking on the wrong side of the road
  • Driver fatigue on long journeys
  • Poor visibility, especially at night or in fog
  • Speeding on highways with two-way traffic

Long Journeys Need Extra Care

The family was on a long road trip from Dwarka towards Bhabhar, a distance that can take many hours. Long drives are tiring, and tiredness slows reaction time.

Safety experts generally advise drivers to:

  • Take regular breaks on long trips
  • Avoid overtaking on blind curves
  • Keep to the speed limit
  • Wear seat belts, including passengers in the back seat

A Family’s Loss

Behind every road accident statistic is a family that has lost someone. In this case, a mother and son were killed together, and four others now face recovery from their injuries. The loss is likely to be deeply felt by relatives and the community back home.
